4 Things I Learned About Nicki Minaj From The Breakfast Club Interview

Hey Boogas,

So this morning I got a minute to watch the Nicki Minaj interview conducted by The Breakfast Club. I really support The Breakfast Club for several reasons. Angela Yee is my homie. I got to interview her way back when she had her show Lip Service. She was cool enough to let me come in the studio to interview her and even be on her show several times. I have followed her career over the years and I am extremely proud of her, so I tune in when I can to the show. I also listen in because the show is just great. The three of them make a entertaining team that I enjoy listening to.

Yesterday, they had Nicki Minaj as their guest. She dropped her album; Roman Reloaded and started her day of promos at The Breakfast Club. I watched the interview and after watching it, I found that I not only liked Nicki as an artist but as a person too. I’ve been a fan of Nicki since her “Jumpoff” days, but I have to admit that when she became a major artist and started to change her look and such I was taken aback. I was confused and felt like the money got to her a bit and changed her but now listening to her interview here, I finally get it. I GET IT! Nicki has a vision for herself and so far the steps she has taken within her career has benefitted her and that’s what it is all about. It’s not about tip-toeing around to please other people. It’s about stomping your ground to make you happy.

Here are 4 things I learned about Nicki Minaj:

Nicki Minaj is business savvy- If you just took your perception of Nicki from her lyrics and her look in her videos, you could easily grasp the perception that Nicki is a money-making gimmick but she’s actually very into her business. If you listen to the way she answers questions, she takes her time to say what she wants to say but at the same time she takes a second to ensure she thinks things through so that her brand is not tarnished from words.

“That’s why I’m so aggressive in my business life because too many people the opportunity to do me dirty.”- Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is best misunderstood- If you knew the every move someone made down to the ‘T” would you care to see those moves being made? Yes, Nicki Minaj could get on stage with her jet black straight weave, some designer jeans and shoe boots and just spit her lyrics but how interesting would she be? I get it now that her “get-up” is purposely done not to just be different or like some would say, be like Lil Kim. She is all of these characters to keep her stardom alive and bright. I get it! Being predictable is boring.

“…I was happy they didn’t understand it. I don’t always want to be understood. That’s the crazy thing about me.”- Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj really LOVES her fans- Artists always gets on a stage when receiving a award and thanks God and the thanks the fans. It’s like that is a spoken rule but Nicki Minaj really does the music to please herself but to also please her fans. In this interview she mentions the love for her Barbz so may times. Nicki also makes a ton of sense when she explains why artists are no longer making albums with more than 15 songs but she stretched the envelope and gave her fans 19 songs. She didn’t care if she lost any money going over the cap of songs for her album. All that mattered is that her fans were satisfied.

“I’ll probably lose 5 million dollars by putting all those songs on there but I want my fans to be fed.”- Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is FOCUSED- Nicki has so many things going for her right now. She has the album, she has her lipstick for MAC, she has a fragrance coming out, she has a clothing line on its way and she’s in the process of penning a deal for Pepsi. Regardless if you like her music, you have to respect the grind.

“When you say what do you do for fun, fun to me is conquering stuff. Like, that’s what drives me.”- Nicki Minaj

I can’t lie, I didn’t cop the album yet but I’m going to today. I need something new in my car to bump to. You guys do the same!

Muah for your forehead…

xoxo- Franny Crooks
